Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, would have been 109 years old. To celebrate his legacy Kelly School joined in Read Across America for the fifth time with the family night in his honor.
Students and parents gathered in the school multipurpose room to listen to fifth grade teacher Tammy Peterson, dressed as the Cat in the Hat read “Gerald McBoing Boing.”
Families were given a free copy of the Dr. Seuss book to keep.
Families could listen to Dr. Seuss stories read by Kimball High students or build a truffula tree.
Other local schools also had events for Dr. Seuss’ birthday. At McKinley Elementary, for example, students were served green eggs and ham at lunch, along with the regular menu, and Food Services employees dressed as the Cat in the Hat.
