Athletic Perfection All-Star Cheer teams will compete for the first time this season at the American Masterpiece event, hosted by American National Championships Cheer and Dance on Saturday and Sunday at the San Jose Convention Center.
Athletic Perfection will have 10 teams in competition, with team members ranging from ages 4 to 18. Divisions include Tiny, Mini, Small Youth, Senior Open and Small Senior.
“We are really anxious to get out on the floor,” gym owner Julie Van Os said. “There is always a lot of anticipation for the first competition. We work so hard for so many months; it’s a great feeling of accomplishment to finally compete.”
More gymnasts qualify for state meet
Local gymnasts from Classic Gymnastics competed Sunday at the NorCal Gymnastics Zone 3 Championship at Byers Gymnastics in Sacramento. It was the meet where gymnasts in levels 5 and 6 had the opportunity to qualify for the state championships.
Both of Classic’s Level 6 gymnasts qualified for their state meet, which will be Saturday at California State University, Sacramento. Shaylyn Garay finished 13th overall, fifth in her age division, and Tori Enos finished 16th overall.
Three of five Classic Level 5 gymnasts qualified for their state meet Nov. 22 in Burlingame.
Donna Rotella finished 32nd overall and got the top score in the vault, 9.175. Also qualifying were Madison Uribes, 30th overall, and Gaby Pena, 39th overall. Also competing were Aly Gilkerson and Lauren Giles.
Among Classic’s Level 4 gymnasts, Celia Reddoch finished first place all-around among 81 competitors with a score of 37.075, and Claire Guite finished third overall with a score of 36.075.
Katelyn Garay, 35.125 all-around, took fourth place; Ellie Higgins, 34.675, took eighth; and Kaylin Dennington, 34.15, took ninth. All have qualified for their state competition.
Other Level 4 gymnasts were Amanda Scudder, Kimmy Dennington and Veronica Knowlden, who also qualified for state.
Elizabeth Higa of Tracy, who is a member of California Gymnastics Academy of Livermore, also qualified for the state meet for Level 6 following the Zone 6 meet in Livermore. She finished 10th all-around with a score of 34.825.
