San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputies are searching today

for the body of a 15-year-old boy presumed drowned in the San Joaquin River.

The boy was wading in the water at about 6:45

p.m. Sunday at the river near Kasson Road when he went under, said sheriff’s spokesman Les Garcia. He hasn’t been

seen since.

Crews searched by boat and helicopter, and divers tried to

find the boy before the effort was called off because it was too dark. The

search resumed today and as of 4:30 p.m., no body was found.

Swift currents and unseen dangers underwater can make the

seemingly benign river sometimes treacherous.

The sheriff’s department has yet to reveal where the boy is

from.
