Kudos to Steve Hunger (“Your Voice, “Gateway to Manteca,” Wednesday). He is so right. Tracy can’t get anything accomplished. No sports park, no colleges, no aquatic center, no big retailer. Who wants to build in a city that cannot grow and support their business?
Measure A effectively ruined Tracy’s chances to become a “destination” or enhance its desirability to residents. I want to sit right next to Steve, eating a sandwich, sucking in dust. It sounds so enticing. Why would they build a courthouse on Sixth Street? The Great Plate and Magellan’s can serve only a limited number of people.
Celeste Garamendi shot a hole in “her idea” with her pushing of Measure A. No new homes, no new residents, no new businesses.
Tracy had better step up and start taking action to give us “destination” elements, or everyone will drive by Tracy to get to Manteca. The aquatic center would be a great start (before Manteca thinks of it), and let building begin under Measure A now.
Sue Rainey, Tracy
