The good news: The Tracy High boys basketball team put up a season-high 70 points Wednesday in Stockton.

The bad news: The host Franklin Yellowjackets scored 79 to hand the Bulldogs their fourth loss in San Joaquin Athletic Association play.

“Too much scoring. I mean, seriously, 79 points,” said Tracy coach Paul Demsher, whose team is 1-4 in SJAA play and 6-15 overall headed into tonight’s game at longtime SJAA rival Lincoln. “And sure, we scored, but we didn’t show a lot of patience.”

The ’Dogs turned the ball over too much and never got a run in on the Yellowjackets (3-2 SJAA, 8-13), who got points from fast breaks when the Bulldogs missed shots, finishing off breakaways with easy layups.

Austin Jones led the effort with 15 points, and forward Cameron McMorris-Jackson added 14. Senior point guard Khrys Lawson scored 13 points, and junior guard Preston Mattos added 11.

The Yellowjackets did a fine job defensively on Tracy’s top shooter, holding senior shooting guard Nate Brown to only two field goals and seven total points.

Fabien Garcia led the ’Jackets with 20 points.

Senior Ryan Jakes added eight points for Tracy, which came awfully close to Lincoln the first time through league play, 60-57, at home. The Trojans (5-0 SJAA, 15-7) have gotten Tracy’s goat in every game between the two teams since the 2004-05 season, winning the past six in a row.

Daryl Dancy led all scorers with a commanding 26-point performance to propel the Bullpuppies (4-1 SJAA) past the hosts in southeast Stockton.

Mychal James added 13 points, and Kevin Speer scored 11.

Tracy led by 13 points after a quarter to stay on top all game.

Casey Wichman scored 19 points and Hugo Levy added 12 for the Bullpuppies (4-1 SJAA, 9-7).

Andrew Lamadrid tossed in eight points and Tyler Trew added 12.

Tracy outscored Franklin 28-18 in the first half to seize control in what coach Kevin Ornellas dubbed a “hectic” game.
