Once all the packages underneath the Christmas tree are unwrapped and the cat has knocked off all the ornaments, that tree will be easy to recycle.

The city of Tracy collects trees and other holiday greenery along with the rest of the yard debris that goes out on garbage collection days.

From now through the second week of January, the city will collect trees left at curbside next to garbage and yard waste barrels. Trees taller than 6 feet should be cut in half. The trees should not have any tinsel, lights, nails, ornaments or stands attached.

Like other yard waste, the trees will be shredded and turned into compost.

Other Christmas debris can be recycled as well. Gift boxes, cards, wrapping paper, cardboard and tissue paper can all go in the blue recycling barrel and left at curbside on regular recycling pickup days.
