Tracy police still don’t know what caused a fatal motorcycle crash on Kavanagh Avenue last week, and probably won’t know unless investigators can find someone who saw the crash.

Tracy police officer Steve Bailey said an investigation of the crash scene indicates that the motorcycle rider had not been speeding. Bailey added that an examination of the motorcycle, a Honda CBR 900, revealed no mechanical problems. There did not appear to be other vehicles involved.

Police were called to the 1300 block of West Kavanagh Avenue at 11:47 p.m. Oct. 17 after someone reported the crash. Bailey said the motorcycle went down and the rider slid underneath a parked pickup. He was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

"We don’t know why he went down. He was an experienced motorcycle rider, according to his family," Bailey said. "Other than neighbors saying he was driving back and forth on a high-performance motorcycle, it’s anybody’s guess on what he was doing."
