Admire the bus drivers

EDITOR,

It was unfortunate that the West High school bus from Mountain House was overcrowded, but it’s a 20-minute ride. High school students are young adults and should be able to follow simple rules — no cell phone usage or iPods (which is Tracy Unified School District policy) — and be quiet and seated.

How would the students’ irate parents handle 60 to 65 cell phones ringing with fun tones and the conversations, while trying to maneuver a bus safely through traffic?

Why was this the only bus requiring a proctor? The proctor is not a tyrant for requiring the students to follow the rules set forth by the district for their safety. Instead of attacking the proctor, it would have been much more professional if the parents met with district officials and resolve the over-crowded conditions. Instead their parents reinforced the students’ behavior.

I send my admiration and appreciation to all school bus drivers. I couldn’t do their job.
