The 12-and-under Tracy Mystique fastpitch softball team bested the Tracy Liberty for the National Softball Association 12-and-under State Championship on Saturday in Turlock, earning a berth in the Western World Series in the process.

Needing two wins to take the title from their crosstown competitors, the Mystique won the first game, 4-3, after the contest went to the international tiebreaker rule. The Mystique won the second game, 4-2.

The Western World Series runs from July 14 through 21 and is in Elk Grove, Stockton and Modesto.

All-Star rosters announced

Last week, the rosters for the 17th Annual High School All-Star Baseball-Softball Classic were announced, and as expected, players from Tracy will represent the North, with players from West on the South roster.

The Tracy High softball team’s only three seniors, Lani McGee, Samantha Whisman and Jennifer Holtz, were selected, and four seniors from West made the team: Stephanie Tornio, Richelle Barta, Brittany Astle and Lillian Harless.

On the baseball side, Tracy’s Justin Koski, Mitch Ruiz and Matt Furtado will play for the North, and West’s three Division-I college-bound players — pitcher Justin Kuks, catcher Braxton Miller and infielder Kerry Jenkins — will play for the South.

The games go on simultaneously on Friday at Delta College’s Sports Complexes in Stockton. Opening ceremonies for baseball are at 4:45 p.m., with softball to follow at 5:15 p.m.

Admission is $5.
