The 23rd annual Fishing Derby for Kids gives kids younger than 15 the chance to compete in a fishing derby at Oak Grove Regional Park’s 10-acre lake.

The free event will feature prizes and runs from 6:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants must register prior to competing in the derby. Registration ends at

10 a.m.

A $3 finishing permit fee and valid California fishing license are required for those older than 16 who wish to

Volleyballers net win

A local group of high school students participated and took first in the 27th annual Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort Volleyball Tournament in Plymouth over Memorial Day weekend.

Erica Saia, Matt Silva, Aaron Gori, Colin Arbuckle, Josh Keeney and team captain Stephanie Silva won four matches en route to their first championship after years of playing in the tournament. The team was led by the consistent setting of Stephanie Silva and Saia, the outside hitting of Gori and Matt Silva, and the defense of Keeney and Arbuckle, who blocked many shots at the net.
