Applications are now being sought for $20,000 in college scholarships to be awarded by the San Joaquin Valley Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association.
Scholarships for the 2007-08 school year will be given in six categories to students living in the San Joaquin Valley, with emphasis on those in transportation- and logistics-related fields, said Nancy Houghton, who chairs the NDTA chapter’s scholarship program.
She noted that the local chapter’s scholarship program is second only to the national NDTA chapter in Washington, D.C.
The NDTA is composed of representatives of land, sea and air transportation firms and defense logistics representatives, which in this area is centered at Defense Distribution Depot San Joaquin.
The six categories for scholarships are for graduating high school seniors entering college, students already enrolled in college and continuing their education, those enrolled in an accredited online educational institution, those enrolled or enrolling in a transportation-related vocational institution, those with a military affiliation and veterans who have been awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received during active duty.
Houghton said scholarship applications can be downloaded from the NDTA chapter’s Web site, www.ndta-sj.com or by calling her at 800-677-5991 or by e–mailing nancy.houghton@gvtd.com.
