Tracy police arrested a man at a Clover Road shopping center Thursday night after he was identified as the possible gunman from a Jan. 20 shooting.
David Earl Ewing, 20, was booked into San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp on suspicion of shooting at an inhabited house, assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a loaded firearm in public, concealing a loaded firearm in a car and altering a firearm identification mark. Police also recommend he be charged with battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Sgt. Scott Martin of the Tracy Police Department said Ewing was identified as the shooter in a Jan. 20 incident on the 900 block of Plantation Court. Nobody was injured, but the shooter fired a shotgun in the direction of another man and sprayed a garage door with pellets. Police believe the attack was part of a feud that started with a hit-and-run car crash on Grant Line Road on Jan. 4.
According to police dispatch logs, officers found Ewing and two other people in a blue Buick Regal next to Starbucks Coffee on Clover Road near Tracy Boulevard. One of the people ran toward the freeway while police detained the other two at gunpoint.
Further details on the incident were not available Friday. County jail booking logs show that Ewing was held on $273,666 bail. Police dispatch logs indicate that the other man was arrested, but further information on that arrest was not available Friday.
