The Tracy High girls basketball team were prepared for a tight game Thursday, visiting Lincoln in Stockton — but instead found themselves owners of a 20-point victory, blowing out the struggling Trojans (3-3 San Joaquin Athletic Association, 6-15 overall) 61-41 in their own gym.
“To win like this at Lincoln, at their place, is a huge accomplishment for the girls,” said Tracy coach Mike Granillo Jr., whose team swept the season series from the Trojans for the first time in recent memory. “We’re going in the right direction.”
And it could have been even worse for Lincoln, as Tracy (5-1 SJAA, 14-9 overall) shot only 22-for-42 from the line as a team.
Freshman Stefanie Eubanks scored a game-high 17 points, thanks to 11-for-17 free-throw shooting. Sophomore Marlene MacMillan added yet another double-double to her resume, scoring 14 points and reining in 16 boards, and Ashley Freitas added 12 with eight rebounds. Not to be denied, Jordan Averiett hit double figures with 10 points.
“All the girls played up all four quarters — you know, this was the first time we played a full four quarters,” Granillo said. “Everyone did an excellent job executing our game plan.”
The plan was to crash the boards and keep Lincoln’s shooters in foul trouble — and that’s exactly what happened. Only six players total scored for Lincoln, with only two in double figures.
Next week, the Bulldogs will enjoy two games at home, beginning Tuesday against Bear Creek at 7 p.m., and concluding with Chavez on Thursday. If Tracy can continue their winning ways, the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs are a realistic possibility.
“That’s what the girls are trying to accomplish here,” Granillo said. “That’s one of their goals.”

The Bullpups (6-0 SJAA, 20-3 overall) put away the Trojans in the second quarter with an 11-3 run and came out in the second half by allowing only two field goals to achieve their 20th win.
Ronnee Peralta of Tracy led her team in points with 12, and Tai Kagehiro added five.
“In the second half, we kept them from scoring each quarter because we contested every shot,” Tracy coach Mike Granillo III said. “It was a team effort.”
Granillo thought Peralta made a good effort.
“Peralta came up big in the second quarter off the bench,” he said.

The Bullpuppies (3-3 SJAA, 10-13 overall) ended the first quarter with a four-point lead over the Trojans, but could manage only single field goals in the second and third quarters in Stockton on Thursday.
Ashlee Vinyard led Tracy’s scorers with 10 points and reined in seven rebounds, and hit a basket at the buzzer in the first period to give Tracy a boost. Emily Jerger added seven points, and Julia Hand’s eight rebounds led the team.
“I think the tall girls played well — this was one of Ashlee’s all-around better games,” Tracy coach Keith Britt said. “If we can get the littles to play like the bigs, we’ll be making progress.”
