The 12-and-under Tracy Cougars Bill Meyer League mini-season team kicked off its January competitive stint with two wins at Lodi Middle School on Saturday.

The first victory was a 1-0 triumph over Modesto. Courtney Allen scored the game’s only goal on a pass from Lauren Frizzi, as goalie Haley Thatcher recorded three saves for the shutout. Courtney Allen, Brandi Gualco, Nadia Vijeh, Haley Ochoa and Valerie Mackay also had shots on goal.

Against Merced, Tracy won 4-0. Gualco scored two goals, Ochoa provided a one-time shot off of a ricochet, and Katie Little scored the fourth goal. Assists came from Frizzi, Vicky Gracie and Courtney Allen.

Thatcher recorded another eight saves for the shutout.

“The girls looked like they’d been playing competitive soccer all year long, they looked so good!” coach Sherri Mackay said in an e-mail.

The Cougars participate in local youth soccers’ competitive mini-season. Players are culled from the fall house leagues and will play other similarly formed teams around the area for the next few weeks.

The Cougars and other TYSL mini-season teams will play at the Tracy Sports Complex and at Plascensia Fields today.
