The Tracy High girls basketball team defeated Bear Creek, 43-31, in Stockton on Thursday in the Bulldogs’ second league game.
Top scorers for Tracy (2-0 San Joaquin Athletic Association, 11-8 overall) were Marlene MacMillian with 12, who also had double-digit rebounds for the double-double, Jordan Averiett with nine and Stefanie Eubanks with six.
Bulldogs coach Mike Granillo Jr. said he was pleased by MacMillian’s double-double and her effort on the court.
The Bulldogs dominated early, outscoring their opponents 19-8 in the first half.
The Bruins’ Jasmin Baker scored more than half her team’s points, notching 19. Jessica Borja also added seven to the score.
Granillo sought the opportunity to put everyone on the court Thursday, and did.
“Everyone had the opportunity to play,” he said.
The Bulldogs will play at Chavez at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
(S) Tracy 37, Bear Creek 18
Ten points from Megan Machado, nine from Tai Kagehiro and eight from Tontane Gilbert pushed the Bullpups (2-0 SJAA, 16-3 overall) past the Bruins in Stockton on Thursday.
Lindsey Phelps also hauled down 12 rebounds to foil the Bruins (0-2 SJAA).
“We came out with a huge lead in the first period,” Tracy coach Mike Granillo III said. “We pressured them, forced them into a lot of turnovers and scored a lot of points off of that.”
League continues Tuesday at Chavez.

The Bullpuppies improved to 1-1 in SJAA play with an overtime win over the Bruins on Thursday.
Emily Jerger scored nine points and added nine rebounds, Ashlee Vinyard added eight and hauled down 13 rebounds, and Stephanie Diaz was there with six points.
Tracy is now 8-12 overall.
