As a goodly number of Press readers reported in the past week, that was indeed Frank Taylor standing inside the Greyhound Bus Depot in 1978. Taylor operated the local Greyhound agency for 31 years, from 1848 to 1979, when he sold it. He was first an employee of Alexander W. Bobo, and later he and his wife, Noami “Babe” Taylor, owned it. A year after Taylor retired, the bus depot was moved from 213 W. 11th (now the state Employment Development Department office) to 1102 W. 11th St. and was later closed. Many readers said Taylor was “Mr. Greyhound” in Tracy and very helpful to everyone. He was well known throughout the Greyhound system in western states. He died on Christmas Day 1999 at the age of 86.
Dr. Mike McLellan remembers Taylor as being very active in the First Presbyterian Church. Taylor was also active in Eastern Star and loved to sing at lodge and community programs.
Among those identifying Taylor in the Greyhound depot were Ilda Corron, Mary Ornellas, Helen Lara, Arline Robbins, Frank Varela, Rose Miller, Brian Beffa, Martin Sasser, Margaret Vasquez, Leona Willis, Eleanor Ramos, Betty Lemon, Jeannie Garcia, Charlotte Tynor, Evelie Grebil, Brian Reed, Lawrence Silveira, B.J.
