Five years ago — 2002
On Thursday, Jan. 11, the West High girls varsity basketball team demolished Oakdale, 54-19. The win extended the Wolf Pack’s winning streak to 16 games, with a 17-1 overall record on the season. The game boosted the Wolf Pack to 3-0 in league play. Top scorers were Dominique Carter, with 18 points, and Brandi Green, with eight.
The Tracy High girls hoops team won an intense overtime victory against the Sierra Timberwolves at Swenson Gym, 35-31. Laura Crawford led the team with 21 points. With 30 seconds left in regulation, junior guard Joleen Linasan hit a crucial 3-pointer to tie the game at 53-53.
10 years ago — 1997
On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Tracy United under-18 competitive boys soccer team placed first place in the sixth annual “Off the Wall” indoor soccer tournament. Nate Griffin, Nate Perry, Bryce Lasiter, Gary Russell and Joey Russell scored goals. Joey Russell sealed the victory with the game-winning goal to give United their title.
15 years ago — 1991
The Tracy High girls soccer team beat Edison, 6-1, in its first San Joaquin Athletic Association game of the year. Cindy Patterson scored three goals, and Summer Meservy scored one goal and had one assist. The Vikings only managed two shots on goal. The Bulldogs had a lead of 4-0 when the only goal for the Vikings went in. The victory raised the Bulldogs’ record to 3-2 in the SJAA.
Turlock snapped the Tracy High boys varsity basketball team’s nine-game winning streak with a 63-60 win. Turlock completed 15 of 20 free throws in the fourth quarter for the upset. The loss put the Bulldogs record at 11-3.
20 years ago — 1987
On Friday, Jan. 9, the Tracy High wrestling team embarrassed the Franklin Yellowjackets, 63-0. This win improved the Bulldogs’ record to 2-0 in the SJAA. The quickest pin was by 147-pounder Arden Dennington at the one minute, 10 second mark in the first period. The other pin was by 100-pounder Twan Ad.
