A 54-year-old Modesto man died Wednesday morning after his Buick swerved into the path of a Nissan pickup on Interstate 580 south of Tracy.
The 42-year-old driver of the Nissan was taken by ambulance to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital along with his 47-year-old passenger. The men, from Turlock and Hillmar, respectively, had minor injuries.
A statement from the California Highway Patrol said the Modesto man crashed into a center guard rail, then crashed into the right-hand rail before veering across the center divider near the Corral Hollow Road overpass on I-580 at 5:20 a.m.
The truck crashed into the right-hand side of the Buick, which spun off the freeway and overturned before coming to a rest on the driver’s side.
The driver died at the scene. No passengers were in his car.
