U.S. Marine Cpl. Brandon Dewey’s name will officially join those of four earlier victims of the war in Iraq on the Tracy War Memorial on Saturday.
The unveiling of Dewey’s name will be the central portion of the traditional Veterans Day ceremony that will begin at 10 a.m. in front of the granite monument on East Ninth Street.
His death followed those of four other U.S. servicemen from Tracy who have died in Iraq since March 2003: Marine Gunnery Sgt. Joseph Menusa, Army Staff Sgt. Steven Bridges, Army National Guard Sgt. Patrick McCaffrey and Army Pfc. Jesse Martinez.
Members of Dewey’s family will take part in Saturday’s unveiling ceremony.
The Veterans Day program will include a talk by John J. Serpa, a past president of the Tracy War Memorial Association and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He will trace the 15-year history of the Tracy War Memorial, which was dedicated on Memorial Day Weekend 1991.
Mayor Dan Bilbrey will read a Tracy City Council resolution, and representatives of Tracy veterans’ organizations will place a wreath in front of the monument bearing the names of Tracy’s war dead from World War I to the present time.
John Treantos, president of the Tracy War Memorial Association, will be master of ceremonies.
