The Tracy High boys soccer team snuffed out the Flames, 4-0, and the win upped the team’s record to 6-3 in the San Joaquin Athletic Association and 8-5-1 overall.
The team is just one point behind Lodi and four points behind league-leading Franklin with six matches to play. Tracy is still the master of its own destiny because it has two games to play with Franklin this season, including Wednesday’s game in Stockton.
The Bulldogs will go into that important contest with the momentum of a three-game win streak after Friday’s near-total domination of the Flames. After Lodi’s first shot on a breakaway in the first minute of the match hit the goalpost, Tracy controlled the offense and defense.
Senior Danny Bourassa opened the Bulldogs’ scoring with a penalty kick in the 16th minute. He then added a second penalty-kick score 15 minutes into the second half.
Just four minutes later, sophomore Alex Alvarez knocked in a rebound, with Bourassa assisting, to put Tracy up by three goals. Senior Juan Lopez finished the night midway through the second half with a header; credit the assist to sophomore Nick Montalvo.
“This win changes our season,” said Tracy coach Phil Kalis, who two weeks ago was staring at a possible mediocre year. “We have a young team and they are maturing (game to game). And the seniors are stepping up.”
Kalis cited senior Derek Guinn for having the other defenders in the right spots. Jose Pacheco had four saves in goal for the Bulldogs.
(JV) Tracy 2, Lodi 0
Tracy’s JV team completed the sweep over Lodi at home.
Aaron Murray scored from the defensive position in the first half and Bryan Bourassa scored in the second half.
The last time the two teams met, Lodi won 1-0, so Friday’s rematch was important and the Bulldogs never relinquished control.
West 1, Tokay 0
The West High soccer team didn’t let the host Tigers take an early lead — as has been the case recently for Wolf Pack opponents — in the match-up of first-place teams.
The victory as a visitor pushed West to 7-1-1 in the Tri-City Athletic League and 10-1-1 overall. The next time Tokay will see the Wolf Pack will be on West’s rock-hard home field.
