The Tracy High boys soccer team’s hopes for a second-straight San Joaquin Athletic Association title — and their chances at another CIF Sac-Joaqun Section Division I playoff berth — took a turn for the worse Wednesday in Lodi with a lackluster 2-0 loss to the Lodi Flames.

“We got beat in every area of the game,” Tracy coach Phil Kalis said. “We got bullied off the ball… (Lodi) played with a sense of urgency we just did not have today.”

Tracy (2-2 SJAA, 3-4-1 overall) moved to fourth place in SJAA play with the loss, behind undefeated Lincoln (4-0) in first place and the Flames (3-1) and Franklin (3-1) tied for second.

Tracy’s chances on net were few and far between. Goalkeeper Bobby Ebert’s play was one of the lone high points for the Bulldogs, as the junior kept the Flames off the board until the second half.

A defensive miscue on a corner kick 20 minutes into the second half gave Lodi its first goal, and with Tracy throwing the bulk of their players forward in search of an equalizer, the Flames went up 2-0 in the game’s final minute on a counterattack.

The loss means Friday’s home game against Franklin is vital for the Bulldogs.

“The margin for error is zero now for the rest of the year,” Kalis said. “If we don’t win that game, we pretty much have to win out.”

Game time is 5 p.m. Friday.

Girls tennis

West 3, Stagg 2

The Wolf Pack (1-0 TCAL) swept the singles matches to win their first league game.

“The girls were pretty competitive today,” West coach Ben Tsukiji said. “I expect a lot of matches to be close, and we’ll probably be good at learning how to play tiebreakers.”

Both Gabby Ramirez’s No. 3 singles match and Tuzuk Koul and Neda Dastgheyb’s match at No. 2 doubles both required a tiebreaker in the first set. Ramirez won hers 7-5 en route to a 7-6, 6-4 win, but Koul and Dastsgheyb went down 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 6-2.

Ilah Estrada defeated Stagg’s Isabel Zacarias 6-4, 6-1 for a win at No. 1 singles, and at No. 2 singles Cherie Romaudlo bested Jeanine Aguilar in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

“She held her serve every time and broke the Stagg girl every time except one,” Tsukiji said of Romauldo. “The first two sets lasted a long time — it was indicative of how long the rallies were and how close the points were.”

Erika Sembrano and Jasmin Fonseca lost to Nancy Cen and Angel Lamb at No. 1 doubles 6-3, 6-2.

West will travel to Edison on Friday.
