Man beaten with bat

A caller reported that a man had been beaten unconscious in his truck with a baseball bat on the 300 block of A Street at about 10:30 Tuesday morning.

Tracy Police Department officers responded to 253 calls for service Tuesday. The following is a sampling of those calls:

• A caller told police at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday that a briefcase had been stolen from the trunk of a 2003 silver Honda Accord on the 2700 block of Redbridge Road.

• A caller said a cat had been missing and complained that two pit bulls had yet again broken out of their fenced-in yard on the 3400 block of Buthmann Ave.

• A store employee said a customer sped off in a 2006 Chevy pickup without paying a $23 bill on the 100 block of East 11th Street.

• Police found that a group of kids suspected of skipping school near the corner of Edgewood Lane and Pagoda Court at 10 a.m. were home-schooled students.

• Two girls had reportedly fled after they had stolen hair dye from a store on the 1900 block of West Grant Line Road.

• It was reported that the window of a blue Toyota pickup had been smashed and the truck’s stereo had been stolen from the parking lot of West Valley Bowl on East Street sometime before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

• A caller on the 1900 block of Basque Drive said they received a letter from Spain telling them they had won a lot of money, but they were suspicious of the letter because it asked for their bank account details.

• A business on the 1900 block of Grant Line Road reported that a customer had paid with a forged $2,000 check Tuesday.

• A caller on the 2700 block of Redbridge Road said a 16-year-old girl had received 187 threats through her MySpace.com account.

• Police couldn’t find a stumbling, drunken man at 3:30 p.m. who had been reportedly talking to himself and urinating in public.

• Children waiting in the park for a ride were mistaken by a caller as a group of children preparing for a fight on the 2100 block of Hillcrest Drive at 4:30 p.m.

• A caller reported that a dog had been barking on the 2500 block of Marie Antoinette Drive at 9:30 p.m.

• An employee at Nation’s Giant Hamburgers on the 3000 block of North Tracy Boulevard called police to say that he was concerned about employees’ cars being vandalized over the weekend in the restaurant’s parking lot.

• A 29-year-old woman had been caught shoplifting at 6:03 p.m. at the Save Mart store on the 1000 block of West 11th Street. She was later arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.
