Officials called 21 fouls on Tracy, including foul-outs for seniors Shelby Devlin and Angela Mariani, and Del Oro made 10 of 19 shots from the line.
Tracy coach Derek Solano said it was a tough way to finish the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs, considering Tracy’s defense kept Del Oro in check through most of the first quarter.
But the No. 5 seed Golden Eagles (18-10, 7-3 Sierra Foothill League) broke loose from No. 12 Tracy (16-11, 7-3 San Joaquin Athletic Association) to build a 30-15 lead at the half.
Tracy again stepped up its defensive effort in the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough to catch up, and the team’s fouls began to pile up.
“We came out and were down by eight points (in the third quarter),” Solano said. “We had our opportunities and didn’t take advantage of them.”
Senior guard Karsi Fyfe scored eight points for the Bulldogs, senior guard Emily Anchartechahar scored seven and Mariani scored six.
McNair 67, Kimball 35
The Kimball Jaguars found themselves looking up at a 23-5 deficit to the McNair Eagles in the first quarter of the opening game of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls basketball playoffs at McNair High in Stockton on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Kimball coach Mike Granillo said the No. 15-seeded Jaguars (17-11, 8-6 Valley Oak League) committed too many turnovers in the first half against the No. 2-seeded Eagles (25-3, 8-2 Tri-City Athletic League), but weren’t intimidated going into the third quarter.
“The second half we played better, up to our ability,” Granillo said. “We took care of the ball and gave ourselves more opportunities.”
Junior guard Noni Kuumba led the Jaguars with nine points, sophomore guard Allie Schmidt scored seven and sophomore forward Ayida Peters scored six.
