During a morning ceremony Thursday, Feb. 14, the group handed out a total of $7,500 raised during the past 12 months to the following nonprofits:
• American Cancer Society
• Boys and Girls Clubs of Tracy
• Brighter Christmas
• Coalition of Tracy Citizens to Assist the Homeless
• Get Real Behind the Wheel
• McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter
• Military Moms of Tracy
• Tracy Interfaith Ministries
Council President Dale Bledsoe, who works for Crown Key Realty in Tracy, said the group has donated to local charities in each of the past 10 years.
“We look at (the charities’) body of work and whether we think our donation is going to be worthwhile in their overall fund,” Bledsoe said. “There’s other charities that are certainly worthwhile, but that’s the list we came up with.”
He described the number of people in need as “astonishing” and said the success of the fundraising effort takes more than realtors.
Bledsoe gave credit to appraisers, roofers, lenders and other people associated with the local real estate market who pitch in with an annual fundraiser dinner in December, weekly auctions and other events.
He said organizations such as the local Masonic chapter and West Valley Mall help by donating space for events and items for auction.
“This was a tough year, and I have to say, people bent over backwards to help,” Bledsoe said. “There’s a lot of organizations in the community that have really helped us raise this money.”
