The Tracy Performing Arts Foundation announced the nominees for the 2008 Stellar Awards on Friday.

The Stellar Awards honor individuals and organizations that have consistently worked to promote and preserve the performing arts throughout Tracy. Some are being acknowledged for their volunteerism, their philanthropic support or for giving an outstanding performance during the foundation’s most recent theatrical season.

Over the past several weeks, the foundation has surveyed Tracy residents to solicit their suggestions as to citizens, organizations and events that they feel worthy of such an honor.

With the opening season of the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, Tracy has experienced a variety of new local talent spreading their wings — singing, dancing and acting in the beautiful new center.  Beginning with Linda Ronstadt and concluding with the foundation’s production of the “Glass Slipper,” a wide variety of theatrical and nontheatrical productions where available for local residents to enjoy in the 2007-08 season and to nominate for the Stellar Award.

Venues were not limited to those at the Grand. The nominating guild encouraged folks to nominate performances that took place at venues throughout the city, including the school districts within the community.

The awards will be given out this Friday at an event known as the 2008 Stellar Awards and Gala at the Grand Theatre. In addition to the awards, the audience will also enjoy performances from the Tracy Community Choir, the Twelve Tones, the 2007 Star Quest Winners, and dancers from the 2007 “Show Us What You Got” dance competition.

Also, the winner of Tracy’s Next Producer-Director Scholarship contest’s best film of 2008 will be awarded. Guests will arrive “on the red carpet” and will be greeted by local “paparazzi” between 7 and 7:30 p.m. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and guests will wrap the evening up with a dessert reception on the Grand Lanai.
