Brad Kelley, a left-hand-hitting outfielder, has won the Jim Blaney Award as the most-valuable player on the Tracy High baseball team. Kelley had a .405 average to top Bulldog batters.
A 30-year-old Manteca man was killed when his ultralight aircraft crashed at Tracy Municipal Airport during the pilot’s first attempt to fly the craft.
Alan Hawkins, a history teacher at Tracy High, has authored a volume of history on the Tracy area’s first inhabitants — the Yokuts Indians.

George Stein and Don Moyer were elected trustees of the Tracy Elementary School District. Dr. J. Earl Longley was re-elected to a new term on the Tracy High board, and Marjorie Dunton, a retired Tracy High teacher, was elected as a new board member.
Tracy High graduate Bud Basolo has taken a busload of Future Farmers on his annual FFA trip to San Francisco.
Burr K. Ellis, who had been office manager of Peterson Ice Cream Co. and president of the Tracy Chamber of Commerce, died at the age of 48 after suffering a heart attack while driving from Oakland to Tracy.
The Stockton Italian Athletic Club baseball team topped Tracy’s Sun Valley nine, 6-3, at Stockton.

Demanding the retention of Principal Ellis G. Rhode and teacher Paul Thompson, the student body association at Tracy High called a meeting to campaign for their goal. Earlier, trustees had voted not to rehire the two staffers, along with football coach Bill Nichelmann.
Tracy High students danced the night away in the local Rose Room during the annual Junior Prom. More than 200 students took part.
Funds originally earmarked for the construction of a new post office building in Tracy have been diverted to help finance reforestation efforts.
