Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo,” at right, showed five members of the Tracy Skyliners model airplane club gathering in July 1960 for their weekly Sunday-morning session at the Tracy Ballpark. Left to right: Russ Vital, Eric Trinkle, Larry McDonald, Ricky Vital and Carl Trinkle.

The Skyliners were an active organization in the 1960s, participating in a number of area model-airplane meets. Russ Vital called to identify those in the photo, including himself. Russ said the Skyliners had about 20 members who made model planes and mostly flew with U-controls at a time when remote-control planes were still in their infancy. Bob Anderson, a World War II P-38 pilot, was club adviser. In addition to those in the photo, Russ remembers Bob Welch, Craig Anderson, Loren Zink, Leonard and Howard Saltzman and Phil Treat as active members.

Today’s Remember When “mystery photo,” above, shows three Tracy High students in unusual garb in November 1974. Who are they, and what was the occasion?

If you know the answer or can’t wait until next week to get it, e-mail shm@tracypress.com or call 830-4234.
