Felicia Zapata, 21, of Tracy won first place at the South County Idol singing contest in Lathrop last weekend. It was two-day event, with several rounds.

In the last round, Zapata sang, “I will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston, wowing the judges.

Born and raised in Tracy, Zapata began singing when she was 15. Since then, she said, singing has become her passion.

“I’m so excited to have won this, because singing is everything to me,” she said this week. “The competition was very hard, because there were a lot of good singers out there. So I’m really glad to have gotten this.”

Zapata lives with her family and said she appreciates the support. Today, she will perform at the Pumpkin Fair in Manteca at 4 p.m.
