On Sunday, the Tracy Elks Lodge No. 2031 celebrated Flag Day with members of Boy Scout Troop 525, Cub Scout Pack 555 and Girl Scout Troop 1943. Members gave a history of the flag from its early beginnings as the Pine Tree Flag in 1775 and Snake Flag of 1776, and other incarnations of the Stars and Stripes. The ceremony included a color guard made up of the Scouts, a salute to the flag, a history of various military engagements, recital of the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of “God Bless America.” At right, Boy Scout Troop 525’s Andrew Brandes and Peter Caraway and Cub Scout Pack 555’s Bailey Poole, Sara Hawk and Ellie Higgins assist Don “Spanky” Rathjen, the Elks exaluted ruler, with the raising of the flag.
