The San Joaquin Delta College Tracy center is happy to announce the addition of expanded counseling services.

A counselor is now available Monday through Thursday in Tracy, with evening appointments available once each week.

Additionally, we have an Extended Opportunities Programs

&

Services counselor available every other Friday for general questions as well as for questions related specifically to our EOPS program — visit the EOPS Web site, www.deltacollege.edu/dept/eops/index.html, for more information.

Additionally, students interested in meeting with a counselor from our Disabled Students Programs

&

Services can do so on an appointment basis.

The services are available to current and prospective students living in the south county area.

Even students living in one of these areas but who take all their classes at Delta’s main campus in Stockton can still see a counselor at the Tracy center.

Although it’s barely spring by the calendar, our summer session will be here before you know it. In fact, the summer schedule of classes is already on our Web site at www.deltacollege.edu.

We offer a variety of general education, real estate and computer courses in Tracy this summer. We also offer in Tracy, for the first time, basic reading and math courses for those who need to brush up in either of these areas.

Many new college students have to take some basic reading and math courses before moving on to the courses needed for their particular major or career goal, so it’s good to get started on those as early in one’s college career as possible.

Whether these types of classes would be required would depend on your score on our assessment/placement test, which covers reading, English and math.

Additionally, if you are planning to start college in the fall semester but it turns out that you do need some basic reading and/or math coursework, it can be good to get a jump on these classes in summer so that by fall you can move on to the classes required for your specific goal.

And, as I say each time, complete your financial aid application now for summer or fall at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

Go to our Web site to apply for admission and for more information.

Also, you may call the Tracy center at 833-7900 to schedule an assessment test (if you will be a new college student) and to make a counseling appointment.

College Notes is written by Jim Leach, counselor at San Joaquin Delta College’s Tracy Center. He can be reached at 833-7900 or jleach@deltacollege.edu.
