If your family history can be traced back to Tracy’s early days, the Tracy Area Genealogical Society wants to find you before this month is over.
TAGS has something called the First Families
&
Pioneer Families of Tulare Township Certification Program. (Tulare Township is the section of San Joaquin County that includes Tracy and surrounding areas.)
The organization wants to honor direct descendants of Tracy’s first residents. Members offer free assistance to help folks prove their relationship to a “first family” or “pioneer family.”
First families are those that settled within the township by 1885. Pioneer families settled here by 1900. Each applicant must be able to prove descent from the ancestor by official record for each generation.
Successful applicants of First Families and Pioneer Families of Tulare Township will receive a certificate, their name placed on a plaque displayed in the TAGS library, documented proof for future generations and an invitation to be an honored guest at an annual awards banquet during the year of certification.
This year’s applications must be submitted by Feb. 28 to be honored at the banquet May 19 at Casa Grande, a restaurant in the historic Tracy Inn at Central Avenue and 11th Street.
For information about the program: Jan James, 835-6662 or tagsca@sbcglobal.net. The address for the TAGS library is 1141 Adam St., Tracy 95376.
