• 10 years ago — 1996

Tracy voters gave Dan Bilbrey a second two-year term as mayor and re-elected Brent Ives and Barbara Matthews to the City Council. Tracyite Richard Pombo easily won re-election to Congress, while President Bill Clinton won re-election in a landslide.

Wyoming quarterback Josh Wallwork of Tracy was on target as the Cowboys swamped Southern Methodist, 59-17. Wallwork passed for 306 yards and two touchdowns.

Residents of Parkside Estates and Hearthstone subdivisions in southwest Tracy are still waiting for construction of the neighborhood park planned for their area.

Tracy Trans is celebrating its fifth birthday. The city-sponsored dial-a-ride service was launched in November 1976.

Craig Anderson, owner of Tracy Camera Shop, has resigned as a member of the Tracy Planning Commission.

Two pilots of experimental planes have died in recent weeks in crashes near here. Tracy’s airport is a mecca for experimental-aircraft pilots because of its wide runways and lack of control tower.

A 10-0 blanking of Edison of Stockton has given the Tracy High Bulldogs the San Joaquin Athletic Association football title. Vince Ceciliani scored the game’s lone touchdown on a 28-yard run in the third quarter.

• 50 years ago — 1956

Supervisor Ed Heinbockel of Tracy has won a narrow re-election victory against challenger Ralph Breitenbucher of Lathrop.

Tracy police have filed charges against six youths involved with a Halloween night tomato-throwing episode.

The Manteca Buffaloes blanked the Tracy High Bulldogs, 14-0, in the annual “Big Game” for both schools.

Tracy area voters narrowly favored Adlai Stevenson for president, 2,966 to 2,919, although Dwight Eisenhower won re-election.

• 75 years ago — 1931

The soaping of car and store windows was the only “trick” pulled by Tracy youngsters on Halloween, according to police.

Arthur King has been elected chairman of the Vernalis Farm Center.

Buster Keaton is starring in “Sidewalks of New York” at the Grand Theatre on Central Avenue.

Tracy businesses will be closed for Armistice Day, Nov. 11. A morning parade is planned.
