10 years ago — 1996

A crowd numbering more than 4,000 took part in the eighth annual Wine Stroll in downtown Tracy.

A good-sized delegation from Tracy watched former Tracy High quarterback Josh Wallwork guide the Wyoming Cowboys to a 45-22 win over San Jose State in Spartan Stadium.

Dennis Cardoza, a Democrat from Merced, and Tom Berryhill, a Ceres Republican, are battling for the 26th Assembly District seat in the November election.

25 years ago — 1981

California Army National Guard officials have indicated they are interested in establishing a Guard unit in Tracy. In the 1950s, Tracy was home of a field-artillery battery.

A Save Mart supermarket and Payless Drug Store will anchor the new Westgate Plaza shopping center at West 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue.

San Joaquin Athletic Association victory No. 2 was posted by the Tracy High Bulldogs, who ripped the St. Mary’s Rams, 23-0. Brad Kelley scored two Tracy TDs, one on a 67-yard punt return.

Plans have been unveiled to build a second Tracy firehouse at the entrance of El Pescadero Park on Grant Line Road.

50 years ago — 1956

Tracy’s Single Fund campaign has been given a boost by a $2,200 contribution by employees of the Tracy Annex of Sharpe General Depot (now Defense Distribution Depot San Joaquin).

75 years ago — 1931

A 32-year-old Tracy woman was arrested for attempting to hold up the Rialto Theatre in Oakland. She was living in a deserted building on a farm west of town.
