Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo” showed the original Central School on Central Avenue in the 1920s. The two-story school building with full basement was constructed in 1912 and served students of Tracy until 1938, when the present Central School at Parker and Eaton avenues was completed.

After serving as a school for children of migrant pea-picker families and as a service men’s club during World War II, the building became Tracy City Hall in 1947. It continued in that capacity until 1961, when the building was torn down as an earthquake hazard and City Hall moved to converted World War II housing units in Wainwright Village (now Tracy Civic Center).
