'Marked' a different kind of vampire novel

Imagine living in a world where everyone knows vampires exist. Now, imagine walking down your high school halls, chatting with your best friend, like always, when something odd happens. You get Marked.

That is exactly what happened to 16-year-old Zoey Redbird in the book “Marked.” She knew vampires existed and was pretty much cool with it — anyway, until she became one.

Now that Zoey is Marked, her whole life has changed. Her best friends desert her, her parents want to act as if it’s not true, and everyone treats her as if she’s a freak.

Zoey knows she has to go to a new school called The House of Night to learn about her new powers. If not, she will die. She decides that the best bet would be to go and talk to her grandma. On the way, she ends up getting lost in the woods and falls and hits her head. While unconscious, Zoey has an encounter with the High Priestess of the Vampires and finds out she is different from other vampires.

When she awakens, Zoey is at The House of Night and immediately knows something is wrong. Her moon-shaped mark shouldn’t be blue, yet it is. From then on, Zoey must cope with what she is and what she is meant to do. And she has to do this while trying to fit into a new school and helping take down a seriously bad vampire.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It isn’t like most of the other vampire books I have read, which portray vampires as evil and bad. It still deals with normal high school problems and family problems that most teenagers deal with today. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good vampire book.
