Every time there is a mass killing, such as Sandy Hook School back east, or the mall in Portland, or the theater in Colorado, or Columbine, politicians jump on the bandwagon trying to make a reputation for themselves by enacting some new legislation for gun control.
We don’t need any new gun-control laws. We need to allow the police the leeway to enforce those that are already on the books.
I don’t care how many or how restrictive the laws are, those who are prone to commit crimes with guns will have guns to do so.
Some years ago, they pretty much scrapped the programs that maintained some control over those who were mentally unstable, turned them loose on the streets to fend for themselves. Today, we are seeing the results of that decision.
Another thing is we need to give the police the power to curb the gang violence. In some areas, it is running rampant, and downsized police departments can’t keep up.
I recently read an article about Australia, where they banned all semi-automatic rifles, semi-automatic shotguns and pump-action shotguns from the civilian population.
Home invasions increased, as did assault. The Australian law states that those that are allowed to keep guns in their homes have to keep the gun locked in a gun safe and the ammunition in a separate room — rather redundant it seems to me.
Apparently, the law doesn’t clearly define what constitutes a home invasion, so those who are prone to commit such crimes know that when they choose to knock the door down to get in, those inside have no means to defend themselves.

Let's see, I politely addressed a question by giving a scenario where a car or knife would be poor examples of a way to defend oneself. I went on to state I do not own a gun. I made a general reference to people who believe - insert debbdaves name here, every Tracy resident is a redneck. One or more thugs break into your house with the intent to rape, pilage, and plunder. Um, it might be a little bit on the difficult side to run them down with your car. As far as protecting yourself with a knife, did you stop to think that would take dangerous up close contact with the thugs? I find it ironic that gun toting conservatives are now crying about the lack of mental healthcare services. Lets not forget that they were all scrapped because of all the anti tax folks who are unwilling to pay for them. In most cases the anti tax folks and the gun lovers are one in the same. That said, you and I might actually share an opinion from time to time. However, based solely on your comments here, it’s very easy to see that you suffer from at least a mild form of mental retardation.
I have yet to hear of a armed robber or intruder who was waiting for their backgrounds check to clear California DOJ so they can legally get a gun to rob a bank or invade a home or do a drive by shooting. You see, the legal lawful gun owners are the only ones under attack here and we are made out to look like right winged terrorists if we disagree with them.
Take a look at it and come to your own conclusion, more gun control does nothing at all to stop mass shootings or robbery's.
