Mr. McCarty, who went by Roy, served 21 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, from 1947 to 1968. His service included duty in the wars in Korea and Vietnam.
Following his retirement from the Navy, he worked as a telecommunications instructor until 1995.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Glenna McCarty of Tracy; two daughters, Kathy Rios of Paradise and Brenda Arias, and her husband, Ralph, of Tracy; a brother, George Richard Duppman; a sister, Judith Duppman; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., will be observed from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, and a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, in Dixon.

Roy is survived by his wife of 61 years Glenna, and daughters Kathy Rios, Brenda Arias and her husband Ralph Arias, brother George Richard Duppman and sister Judith Duppman. Roy was also blessed with 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Roy served 21 years in the United States Navy from 1947 to August 1968 as a career Naval officer. During his career he served with the VF-213, VP-47 and VA-196 patrol and attack squadrons among others during the Korean war and Vietnam conflict.
Roy's most enjoyable assignment came while stationed in Dahlgren Virginia with the US Naval Space Surveillance System. Also during his service he spent time aboard the USS Lexington, USS Hornet, and the USS Constellation to name a few.
After Roy retired from the Navy, he worked in the telecommunications industry as an instructor before retiring for good in 1995.
Roy was loved by all who were lucky enough to have known him. He will always be remembered by his upbeat, cheerful demeanor and light hearted one-liners that his family and friends
