Reyes Lane shooting suspect
The victim was shot on the 2700 block of Reyes Drive, north of Grant Line Road and west of Lincoln Boulevard, at around 8:45 p.m., according to Detective Tim Bauer of the Tracy Police Department.
Bauer said the victim, whose name was not released, was at a local hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 5, recovering from life-threatening injuries.
The detective said the man “suffered a significant injury” but would not elaborate on where or how many times the man was shot.
The shooter is described as being in his late teens or early 20s, about 5-foot-6 and 130 pounds and was last seen wearing dark-colored clothing, according to a press release on Wednesday, Dec. 5.
Bauer also said another person is suspected of driving a two-door red sedan with a sunroof that was used as a getaway car.
The suspected getaway car was captured on a surveillance video from a private surveillance camera on a residence on Reyes Drive. It was released by police Wednesday with the hope that someone would identify it, Bauer said.
During the 8-second video, the suspected getaway car stopped in the street near a row of cars parked nosed-in on the side of the road. The car then executes a three-point turn and leaves.
The portion of the video showing the actual shooting was not released, and Bauer did not provide further details.
“(We want to) respect the victim’s privacy and let him heal,” Bauer said.
The detective said police don’t know what events led to the shooting and don’t think the victim and shooter knew one another before the incident.
Bauer also said police do not know if the shooting was gang-related.
He encouraged anyone with information about the car or the shooter to call 831-6605, or leave an anonymous tip by calling 831-4847.
“We want to solve this because this is a horrific crime,” he said.

The police want them arrested as much as the neighbors and citizens of Tracy. To say otherwise is just foolish. If you want to learn about the police dept instead of just whining about them attend the citizens police academy. I did and it was a huge eye opener. I have so much respect for those who are on the streets trying to protect me and my loved ones...
Most likely there are those who know who is responsible and won’t say anything for obvious reasons, but maybe someone will recognize the vehicle and call in with an anonymous tip. It can’t hurt to try.
