Kimball coach Matt Gumpert counted the Jaguars’ playoff appearance in the playoff tournament at Whitney High School in Rocklin as a big step forward for the school’s program. Gumpert noted that the Jaguars are the first team to go to playoffs since Tracy High’s girls water polo team went in 1996.
Gumpert said that year-round competition for some of the girls, with a Jaguars (14-9, 4-2 Valley Oak League) a roster that includes players from his summertime Junior Olympic team, gave Kimball an advantage this year.
“It’s been a long building process and has had to take a lot of patience by our girls and coaches,” Gumpert said.
He added that the Jaguars held up well against Dixon, champion of the Solano County Athletic Conference
“It was an intense physical game that definitely went down to the wire,” Gumpert said.
Junior Colby Chase scored for the Jaguars in the first quarter, and senior Sydnie Black scored a goal for Kimball in the third.
