The five military veteran parking stalls are marked with red, white and blue signs. Three are near the front mall entrance off Naglee Road, and the other two are at the back entrance off Corral Hollow Road.
West Valley Mall general manager Mike Donaghy said the signs were proposed by former Councilwoman Evelyn Tolbert as a way to honor military service.
“It was a good way to honor veterans,” Donaghy said. “There is a lot of military in Tracy with the depot, and it seemed to make sense.”
Use of the veteran parking stalls will be on the honor system, he said.
The mall had the signs installed in early November, in time for Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
The spaces for veterans are a permanent addition to the lots, joining reserved parking for senior citizens and expectant mothers. The mall’s lots have space for 3,500 vehicles.

Speakin as a veteran, I shall not be using these stalls but rather will leave them empty fer my fellow veterans who are not as ambulatory as I am fortunate ta be.
If we have current problems enforcin laws that prevent people frum unlawfully parkin in handicap parkin spaces just imagine how an honor system with veteran parkin spaces is going ta be abused?
I do believe it's a nice gesture to honor those who have served in our military but fer me, at least at this point in time, I won't use them as I can easily park somewhare else an leave th space open hopefully fer someone else that really needs it.
Thanksgiving is a day when we pause to give thanks for the things we have.
Veterans Day is a day when we pause to give thanks to the people who fought for the things we have.
I really do think this was a great idea. Like yourself, I'm also just now looking into it this evening, check out this website.

The more businesses get involved. The more awareness.
Since this will be the honor system I hope others will respect and give our veterans the honor they deserve.
Thank you to all of our veterans.
Should sweep the nation.
