West’s 5-4 loss on Tuesday, Oct. 30, included a match in the No. 4 singles that went to Armijo after three sets and a No. 2 doubles match that Armijo won after the teams went to tiebreakers in both sets.
It ends the season for a Wolf Pack team (18-4 overall, 8-2 Tri-City Athletic League) that took second place in its league behind St. Mary’s. It was also the third year in a row the team made at least the second round of the playoffs.
West’s top three singles players, all seniors, won their matches Tuesday.
Emma Bell beat Lenora Quionez 6-1, 6-2; Regina Pacheco beat Michelle Nguyen 6-0, 6-0; and Jessica Diaz beat Kathleen Boholst 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
West also won the No. 1 doubles match, as senior Ashley Phillips and junior Julie Schobey beat Alicia Perez and Kristina Lapira 6-3, 6-3.
Armijo won three of the singles matches.
Ariana Restua beat West’s Maliyah Shavers 6-2, 4-6, 6-3; Linh Nguyen beat Allie Bettencourt 6-1, 7-5; and Mercedes Uson beat Chloe Pounds 6-2, 6-4.
In the doubles, Armijo’s Jhayneal Forteleza and Jaimi Garlington beat Coleen Andrada and Kristen Steed 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4); and Jasmine Yasar and Tiffini Mestas beat Abby Sevilla and Arianne Coleto 6-4, 6-2.
