Tracy High’s volleyball team affirmed its place in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs on Wednesday, Oct. 24, with a 3-0 win against Chavez High.

Tracy (12-5, 5-4 San Joaquin Athletic Association) won with set scores of 25-17, 25-11, 25-16. Senior outside hitter Erica Uwaka led the Bulldog team with seven kills, and sophomore setter Mika Fithian had six kills and 15 assists.

Junior Samantha Gonzalez made six kills, and senior Angela Mariani had five kills.

“This was my last home game, so I knew that it had to be a good one,” Uwaka said. “Everyone brings everyone up. Without any one person, it wouldn’t be the same team.”

Senior outside hitter Angela Mariani said that a trip to the postseason has been her goal in her three years on the varsity team, and another league victory showed the Bulldogs what they can bring to the court.

“Our advantage was probably our defense tonight,” she said. “Anything they shot over at us, we’d dig it up and really returned it back hard.”

Tracy has one more match at Bear Creek on Monday, Oct. 29, before playoffs begin Friday, Nov. 2.
