Today’s Remember When “mystery photo,” top left, shows three Tracy police officers in 1964. Who were they, and why were they in the photo?

Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo,” below right, shows George Clever chatting in 1983 with Char Britto, a culinary arts instructor at San Joaquin Delta College at The Student Chef, a student-staff luncheon restaurant on the Delta campus in Stockton.

Clever was the first Tracy-area member on Delta’s board of trustees and first board president when the district was formed in 1963. In 1983, he was completing the final year of his 20-year tenure on the board. Clever Planetarium, now in danger of being closed for budgetary reasons, was named for the longtime Tracy farmer.

Identifying Clever in the photo were his daughter, Amy Lou Crawford, granddaughter Beth Crosby, Barbara Edwards, Christine Fairbanks and Joan Matthews (who followed Clever as a Delta trustee).
