Kimball now has a solid hold on second place in the Valley Oak League, behind league leader Oakdale, and is assured of a place in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs.
Kimball (13-8, 3-2 VOL) has one more match on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Ripon to finish the VOL season.
Varsity girls: Kimball 3, Sonora 2
After a scoreless first quarter the Jaguars pulled ahead 2-0 with second-quarter goals for the win.
Senior Sydnie Black and junior Jhacky Romero, each tallied goals.
The Wildcats tied it up in the second half after Kimball fouls gave Sonora a six-on-five player advantage.
Teams played a tough fourth quarter, with Kimball breaking the tie with one minute, 45 seconds left as Trew passed to Traut, who made the shot to put the Jaguars ahead.
“It was an emotional game, but our girls kept a level head,” Kimball coach Matt Gumpert said. “We play well when we stay calm and know our goals.”
Varsity boys: Sonora 11, Kimball 8
Junior Justin Riccobono and sophomore Reese Maxfield scored for Kimball (0-5 VOL) in the first half, and each scored again in the second half.
Junior Trevor Trew scored two more for the Jaguars in the second half, and senior Steven Cole and freshman Logan Steinberger also scored for the Jaguars in the second half.
Tracy vs. Lodi
Tracy High’s water polo teams hosted Lodi on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in San Joaquin Athletic Association play.
Tracy plays at Lincoln High in Stockton on Thursday, Oct. 18, and finishes the season next week with a non-league match against McNair and Bear Creek.
Varsity boys: Lodi 16, Tracy 4
Lodi charged ahead for a 16-2 lead at the half. Tracy (6-11, 1-5 SJAA) put up stronger defense in the second half, but didn’t have enough offense to make a comeback.
Anthony Singh scored two goals for Tracy while Chris Ramon and Taylor Mellick each added one scored.
Vincent Mello had five saves in the goal and Chaz Samaniego had four saves.
Varsity girls: Lodi 10, Tracy 4
Lodi shut out Tracy 7-0 in the first quarter, and while the Bulldogs were able to score in the second half, the Flames still beat Tracy’s varsity girls (4-9, 0-4 SJAA) on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
Senior Allie Britt led the Tracy team with two goals and an assist while Makennah Bailey also scored goals.
Becca Thompson and Lane Fishburn also had assists, and Courtney Eddy had two steals. Goalie Dallyce Marglon had nine saves, and Kelli Garry had three saves in the goal.
