City Council candidates shared their vision for Tracy on Monday, Sept. 24, at the Kimball High School theater during a question-and-answer session with the public.

The forum, hosted by the Tracy Press, featured incumbent Councilman Michael Maciel debating challengers Roger Birdsall, Charles Manne, Raymond Morelos and Nancy Young for two hours.

Candidates answered question from both the Press editorial board and the audience. Figuring most prominently was the city's in the red general fund budget, the voter-approved half-cent sales tax hike known as Measure E, and economic development.

For an in-depth report on the Monday forum and quotes from the candidates, see the Friday, Sept. 28, print edition of the Tracy Press, or visit www.tracypress.com Friday morning.

Video of the forum will appear on the city's Channel 26 as well as at the Tracy Tea Party website, www.TracyTeaPartypatriots.com.

Charlie Manne is the best person for City Council. I know Charlie as a businessman and as an all around amazing human being. If a picture paints a thousand words; look at the photos posted within this article and tell me who is actively listening; is serious about business and is actually paying attention! Charlie will make a difference for the City of Tracy! As a business woman; Tracy is a wonderful place to work, shop and the people of Tracy deserve an educated, level-headed, astute leader! Charlie Manne for Tracy City Council! Family man, business man, solid, stable and real!

Yup. Picture perfect. Businessman? Don't know about that - how many people does he have on his payroll and how many paychecks has he written out of his business account over the years? Sounds like Birdsall is the only one that can truly call himself a businessman. He never bounced a check on me when I worked for his dealership as a mechanic and he treated us better than any other employer I had before I worked for Roger and since then up until I retired a few years ago. He may not come across as smooth, suave and debonair, but he knows his stuff. Roger is the man.

Maciel needs to go. Here is the problem, he has lived in Tracy his whole life. He knows to many people that could care less about what the City of Tracy does or does not do. They just punch his name of the ticket. He worked over at PD for 25 years and then gets hired over in Turlock, yes the City's now Police Chief here who was the Chief in Turlock at the time. You would think that someone from public safety would look out for those he had served with but that's not the case. It's time for a change once again. Please don't for a person just because you know them.

You can vote for whoever you want to, but since when is serving your community as a officer of the law, a crime?

By the same logic, we shouldnt vote for the guy who started a business in Tracy. Or we should, because he can help his business buddies to contracts? I don't understand.

Again, you can vote for whoever, may the best man win, and all that jazz... I am just trying to follow your logic, here.

I'm hoping these candidates can turn this City around. I still find myself spending my money in Pleasanton and Livermore.

Four of these people actually have business experience and know what needs to be done to succeed in business. The other one was a cop and never had to compete with other businesses to be successful.

I believe Mr. Birdsall is the best of the five and the other three should fight it out for the other seat. Maciel has had a chance to make things better and he has proven himself incompetent.

I was just thinking about that rosa62, but I was thinking that owning a business could become a setback for someone in government.

For example. I certainly wouldnt want our libraries run like a business.

Anyway. May the best candidate win.

@RedHotChilliPeppers

What would you like our libraries run as then? A Charity? Just give all the books away? You don't see an issue with that? Every part of the gov should be run like a business.

Libraries do give books away -to for two weeks at a time. What business does the same?

Government must run like a business. Fiscal responsibility, project planning, etc.

But the goals are different.

Government should provide services for businesses. Not provide business.

The income for government is tax.

A businesses goal (juxtoposed here for your sake) would be to raise taxes.

Following your lohgic. Is that what you want?

Then perhaps ya ought ta relocate ta one of those communities so ya can benefit frum th support yer givin em.

Question, what is it that ya need that ya can't get here in Tracy?

Trader Joe's right?

If that's th answer, or somethang similar, ya might want ta ask Trader Joe's why they haven't set up a place here in Tracy. I thank thair answer might tell ya somethang about business an explain why thair not here.

Ya do know that th sales tax money ya spend largely goes ta support th community ya spend it in don't ya?

So, in this case, it seems that yer punishin yerself by takin yer business ta Pleasanton an Livermore when ya could conduct it here in Tracy.

Had a friend that complained ta his doctor that when he held his arm high above his head fer a period of time that his arm started ta hurt. Th doctor told him, then don't hold yer arm in that awkward position an it will stop hurtin.
