The man was reportedly seen running west on Lowell Avenue from the car at around 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18. He allegedly left a “dagger” at the scene, the police log states.
The man was described as a Latino in his 20s with a shaved head and three “S” tattooed on his chest, which could possibly be gang-related abbreviation for “South Side Stockton.”
Not far from the intersection, a driver flagged down police and said that 10 minutes earlier, they had given a man a ride to 21st Street and Bessie Avenue. The man claimed he had been jumped. Witnesses in the area where he was dropped off said the man was seen walking toward his girlfriend’s house on 21st Street.
Police located the man’s identification inside a vehicle in which he was apparently dropped off before allegedly stealing the Nissan.
The vehicle, which was determined inoperable and towed from the scene, is reportedly registered to a residence on the 2300 block of Gary Lane. One witness reported that the vehicle’s ignition was damaged.
Officers searched a residence on the 1700 block of Bessie Avenue but were unable to locate the man. A cell phone located during the investigation was entered as evidence, the log states. No further details were available about the man’s identity.
