The SUV was driving east on I-580 near the Mountain House Parkway exit at a “high rate of speed” at around 2:00 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol officer David Armstrong.
Witnesses told police that the SUV veered left into the grass median, crossed over westbound lanes and went into a field north of the road, Armstrong said.
The Pathfinder then crashed through a chain-linked fence at the edge of the freeway embankment and began to roll across the field approximately 20 times, Armstrong said witnesses told police.
A produce hopper, about 200 feet from the edge of the freeway, stopped the vehicle from rolling farther.
Armstrong said the driver sustained serious injuries including trauma to the back of his head.
Police declined to release the man’s name at the scene.
The driver was freed from the wreckage by Tracy fire crews and flown by medical helicopter to a Modesto hospital.
No other vehicles or passengers were involved in the crash and the freeway remained open to afternoon commuter traffic.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by CHP officers.

Sounds to me like this was possibly a medical emergency or fall asleep at the wheel kind of thing. He was not necessarily doing something stupid. Possibly, but not necessarily. Be careful out there everyone. :)
"...In addition to earning good ratings for rollover protection, the Equinox, Grand Cherokee, Highlander, Sorento, and Venza also earn the Institute's Top Safety Pick award. To achieve this, a vehicle has to earn good ratings for occupant protection in front, side, rear, and rollover crashes. It also has to have electronic stability control..." (comes from iihs.org)
Kind of blows up the 100% of SUVs are going to roll idea you are trying to spout off about.
Also found this in my searches:
fallacy [ˈfæləsɪ]
n pl -cies
1. an incorrect or misleading notion or opinion based on inaccurate facts or invalid reasoning
2. unsound or invalid reasoning
3. the tendency to mislead
4. (Philosophy / Logic) Logic an error in reasoning that renders an argument logically invalid
Found that fitting. Love the name.
Keep up the good work.
your description of his vehicle as an "ugly behemoth" is not accurate. It may be ugly cause it ia a foreign car (which you probably drive...and I'm guessing a Honda or Toyota)but it is not a large vehicle. I LOVE my GMC Denali XL because it is HUGE and will protect my family from you little foreign car drivers that think you are driving on a race track...I will gladly go "head-on" with you...and lets see who walks away.
tlcinsf thank you for being a good person and stopping. I can only hope that if I am ever in trouble like that, that someone like you comes to my aid.
Hopefully he'll make a full recovery and learned a lesson on the dangers of speeding.
Btw, what is with this stretch of road being labelled east-west? 580 runs east-west from 880 to 205, but from 205 on it is blatantly north-south.
Those are my guesses.....
