Girls Tennis: Tracy opens league play with decisive win

Tracy High’s girls tennis team won its first San Joaquin Athletic Association match in a 9-0 sweep at Franklin High in Stockton on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The Bulldogs (4-1, 1-0 SJAA) won every match in straight sets.

Tracy’s Chiara Adamo beat Kayla Hernandez 6-1, 6-0, Aubrey Boehm beat Adriana Pantoja 6-0 6-3, and the rest of Tracy’s singles, including Cassidy Dolstra, Maisy Green, Marissa Anderson and Sarah Kellogg all beat their opponents in 6-0, 6-0 matches.

In doubles play, Keara O’Brien and Lindsey Ewen beat Adrea Pennell and Lucero Beltran 6-2, 6-0, Katrina Broughton and Taylor Hurlock beat Emily Mayorga and Jessica Cortez 6-0 6-2. Xenia Ceja and Danielle Gallegos beat Tatiana Gonzalez and Naomi Elzalde 6-0 6-4.



Kimball 5, Weston Ranch 4

The Jaguars move to 1-1 in the Valley Oak League with a win in Stockton against Weston Ranch. Kimball won four of the six singles matches.

Kylie Moxley beat Delanne Banit, 6-3, 6-0; Viel Salgarino beat Yesenia Reynosa, 6-3, 6-1; Jessica Agcanas beat Abigail Balingit, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5; and Ysabel Candalla beat Manjot Mahil 8-6, 6-3.

Kimball also won the number-one doubles match as Angela Egbuchulam and Gigi Vega beat Preet Kaur and Parmeen Kaur 6-2, 6-2.

Wins for Weston Ranch included Chelsea Dlitan over Krishna Sankara 7-5, 6-3; Kazoua Vang overcame Tara Adeniron; Stephanie Milan and Renee Ryster beat Sara Kim and Julie To 6-3, 7-5; and Amy Vang and Kimberly Valladeros bounced Ashley Laqui and Desiree Chhan, 6-3, 6-3.



Tracy at Freedom Invitational

Tracy High senior Cassidy Dolstra came back from an early loss to win the consolation final at the Freedom High Invitational tennis tournament on Saturday, Sept. 8, in Oakley.

Dolstra, who won the consolation final at the 2011 Freedom tournament as well, had to win five matches in a row after she lost her opening match on the first day of the event on Friday, Sept. 7.

She won the final in two sets, 6-2, 6-3, over Stephanie Sanchez from Heritage High of Brentwood.

Tracy senior Chiara Adamo won three matches in a row to make the semifinals, where she lost 6-1, 6-0 to Adrienne Sturgis, the eventual tournament singles champion, of St.Patrick/St. Vincent high of Vallejo. Adamo then faced Courtney Samuda of Heritage High for third place, with Samuda winning the match 6-4, 6-1, and took home the fourth-place trophy.



Tracy 5, West 4

Crosstown tennis at West High on Sept. 6 came down to the No. 2 doubles match between Tracy’s Lindsey Ewen and Gianna Violante and West’s Coleen Andrada and Allie Bettencourt, with the Tracy team winning the first set 6-4 and the second set on an extended tie-breaker, 7-6 (9-11).

The teams split the singles matches, with West (7-1) winning the first, second and third singles as Emma Bell beat Chiara Adamo 7-5, 7-5; Regina Pacheco beat Aubrey Boehm 6-3, 6-1; and Jessica Diaz beat Camille McDaniel, 6-0, 6-4.

Wins for Tracy in the singles included Cassidy Dolstra dropped Ashley Phillips, 6-1, 6-2; Maisy Green beat Maliyah Shavers, 5-7, 6-4, 6-0; and Marissa Anderson buried Chloe Pounds 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).

In the doubles, Tracy’s Keara O’Brien and Sarah Kellogg beat West’s Abby Sevilla and Julie Schobey, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4; and West’s Rachel Vindiola and Arianne Coleto bounced Tracy’s Taylor Hurlock and Katrina Broughton, 6-1, 6-4.
