Two fundraising events are planned within the next week to help cover medical expenses for Tracy resident Ron Garcia, 49, who has been diagnosed with stage-4 melanoma cancer.

On Friday, Sept. 14, tri-tip steak sandwiches will be sold from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the American Legion Hall, 1960 N. Tracy Boulevard.

The sandwiches, prepared by Rick McDonald, are $6. Whole tri-tips are $25.

On Wednesday, Sept. 19, a tri-tip steak dinner will be served at the Portuguese Hall, 430 W. Ninth St., for the Ron Garcia fund. The evening will begin with a 6 p.m. social hour, followed by a 7 p.m. dinner with tri-tip steak, potatoes, green beans and French rolls prepared by Mike Bacchetti and Leonard Guillen.

Garcia’s former coaches at Tracy High are scheduled to speak.

Tickets, $50 each, can be purchased at The Shamrock, 117 W. 11th St.; West Valley Bowl, 2365 East St.; Rusty’s, 320 W. Grant Line Road; Caldron’s Jewelers, 907 N. Central Ave.; or Philpott’s Garage, 7880 W. 11th St. Tickets can be reserved by phone by calling 640-6003 or 609-6335.

Tickets also will be sold at the door Wednesday.
