Mr. Ortega was born in Vallejo and had lived in Tracy the past 23 years. He had retired following a career as a utility truck driver.
Known as “Ben,” he volunteered as a Junior Giants coach and performed at the Tracy Dry Bean Festival in the character of Elvis Presley. He played tennis regularly at the Dr. Powers Park courts.
Survivors include two children, Edward Benjamin Ortega III and Nicole Guerrero Ortega, both of Tracy; two siblings, Jack Jose Ortega and Tina Cardera, both of Hayward; four grandchildren; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward Benjamin Ortega and Beatrice Ortega; and a sister, Betty Ann Patterson.
A celebration of Mr. Ortega’s life will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8, a Saturday, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall in Ripon, 12455 E. Ripon Road.
